Non-Degree Students

Research Students (Kenkyusei) are those who conduct researches on specific research topics, under the guidance of an academic adviser.

Graduate Credited Auditors (Kamokutorishusei), who are not admitted to the University of Tsukuba, are permitted to take graduate level courses. The results from examinations taken throughout a semester or final examinations may also be recognized as earned credits.

Application for International Research Students (Gaikokujin Kenkyusei)

  • April (April 1):End of September to Middle of October of the previous year of admission
  • October (October 1):End of March to Middle of April
  • December (December 1):End of May to Middle of June

Research Student Admissions

  • Selection is based on the screening of documents, so it is not necessary to come to Japan.
  • In applying, you are required to get the informal consent of a faculty member of our university to be your prospective academic advisor in advance.
  • Before applying, establish sufficient contact with the faculty member of our university about your research plan, Japanese language proficiency, etc. and get the informal consent of your prospective academic advisor.
  • In giving his/her informal consent, the prospective academic advisor will prepare and submit the “Communication Status with Prospective Academic Advisor Form” (Letter of Informal Consent of the Prospective Academic Advisor) describing the communication status with the applicant to the Division of Student Exchange.
