“Creating and Implementing Universal Services for Public Library in a Super-aged Society” (SUNTORY FOUNDATION Grant for Collaborative Research in Humanities and Social Sciences, Principal Investigator: Masaki Takeda, FY2023 – FY2025)

This project aims to create and implement universal services in a super-aged society.

Universal services are services that enable everyone to use library services equally, regardless of age or disability. However, Japan has the highest rate of ageing in the world, and the number of people with dementia and cognitive impairment is also increasing. It has been pointed out that people with such disabilities have difficulties in using libraries. Therefore, this project focuses on people with dementia and mild cognitive impairment, and aims to develop a system that compensates for the decline in cognitive function by applying the findings of information engineering and cognitive engineering. Thus, we are focusing on universal services for people with dementia and mild cognitive impairment, with the goal of creating a user-friendly library which is easy for everyone to use. At the same time, our goal is also to support the creation of a community that allows people with dementia and their families to obtain the information they need without hesitation.

Students with an interest in creating an information environment that is easy for everyone to use, not limited to libraries, are welcome to join our laboratory.
