Shingo Watanabe (Morishima-Ito Laboratory)
I am a member in the “FusionComp Lab” that conducts research on the “fused intelligence” based on human-AI-Bigdata interactions. The lab is dedicated to conducting research not only for publishing papers but for solving real-world problems to build a better society. My research focuses on developing an AI-based literature management system for researchers. The classification criteria for papers varies among researchers. With my system, researchers place icons representing papers in a two-dimensional space, and during the process, the system automatically learns the criteria for classifying their papers.
Based on the learnt criteria, newly-published papers can be automatically assigned to appropriate categories, significantly reducing the time spent on literature management for researchers.
Moreover, our lab encourages students to present research results at international conferences. I had the chance to participate in a prominent international conference in the field of digital libraries and received the Best Student Paper Award.
In Master’s Program in Informatics, there are a lot of attractive laboratories where we can conduct research across various research fields. Although AI is currently receiving considerable attention, simply focusing on the inner workings of AI itself cannot solve the problems. I believe that the programs are the best place where you can learn diverse approaches for addressing such issues.
