Conference Report

The iConference 2024 was a resounding success, drawing a total of 500 participants. We would like to extend our gratitude to everyone who contributed to its success. The event saw a notable increase in on-site attendance compared to last time, with 319 attendees joining us in person and 181 participating online.

Distinguished keynote speech were given by Professor Michael Seadle from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Professor Wei Lu from Wuhan University, and Professor Sadao Kurohashi, Director of NII, sparking engaging discussions among participants.

This time we received an impressive number of submissions, with a 33% acceptance rate for full papers (36 out of 109 submissions) and a 50% acceptance rate for short papers (55 out of 109 submissions). These papers have been published in Springer LNCS. Additionally, following rigorous peer review, 49 posters, 68 Chinese papers, and 10 papers in Spanish and Portuguese were presented.

Looking ahead, we are excited to announce that iConference 2025 will be hosted by Indiana University Bloomington in March 2025. You do not need to be a member of iSchools to submit papers or participate in the conference. We welcome researchers from all different fields to share their findings in Information Science, encompassing areas such as library and information science and any other approach to data, information and knowledge, at iConference.

We look forward to seeing you at iConference 2025!

About iConference 2024

The iConference is the annual conference of the international iSchools organization and is open to all. It is one of the top venues for research in information science and related fields. This will be the 19th iConference. The hosts will be Jilin University and University of Tsukuba. The program of the virtual part will be based on three time zones (Europe/Africa, America, Asia-Pacific) and consider the locations of presenters, so that participants from a variety of countries can present their results without difficulty. The theme of iConference 2024 is “Wisdom, Well-being, Win-win”. We aim to realize well-being through information driven wisdom on international collaboration in different fields.

What are iSchools?

The “iSchool” means “Information Schools.” The iSchool movement, which began in the United States at the end of the 20th century, advocated for the importance of interdisciplinary schools that comprehensively teach about information, information technology (IT), and people and communities. iSchools were created in various countries besides the United States. A set of North American schools founded the organisation in 2005, and it incorporated as the “iSchools” in 2015.
Over 120 schools worldwide are now members of the international iSchools organization.
